Children’s books bring history, culture and language to life
Gift of Yucatan books will delight pre-teen boys and girls

ELLICOT CITY, Md., October 2008 – Three recently released multi-cultural children’s books by author Trudy Sauri are a treasure trove of adventurous story lines and likeable characters – seamlessly woven together with lessons about Mayan history and language.

Two of the Gift of Yucatan books – Maria’s Rebellion and Pancho’s Quest – will take children on exciting adventures on Mexico’s Yucatan Peninsula. Set in the 1930s, two stories revolve around a young hero and heroine, their families and the political and social climates of the 20th century in Mexico. The third book – Nouns A-Z – is a fun and practical English/Spanish learning guide.

Gift of Yucatan: Maria’s Rebellion tells the story of a high-spirited 10-year-old girl who is more interested in exploring mysterious caves and archeological sites than going to school. Her mischief gets her into trouble with both her parents and her best friend, but ultimately, Maria’s bravery and honesty transforms her into a real-life heroine.

Gift of Yucatan: Pancho’s Quest follows young Pancho who is on a quest to find a stash of hidden ancient artifacts. He hopes to use the treasure to pay doctors to treat his mother’s mysterious illness. Along the way Pancho and his cousin encounter more than their share of adventure and suspense.

Gift of Yucatan: Nouns A-Z is a functional and entertaining guide for learning a first – or second – language. From avocados (aguacates) to zebra (cebra), Sauri uses familiar nouns and color photos to teach children some of the basics of English and Spanish. The back portion of the book provides a phonetic guide to work pronunciation.

Each of the fiction books includes historic and modern-day photos of life on the Yucatan Peninsula, along with an index of the Spanish and Mayan words used in the stories. Beautifully written and historically accurate, the Gift of Yucatan books would make popular and useful additions to a 5th grade-level history class studying Mayan civilization.

                     A GEOGRAPHY DOLL GIFT SET

Your Culture Gifts offers unique gifts; gifts that are meant to be an experience, a keepsake and a memory. A Geography Doll Gift Set is all of that.

The gift set is the idea that began in 2002 that eventually launched Your Culture Gifts business. The idea was to share culture as a means to teach children about the world. Five separate books were designed to teach about social geography, history and language, and dolls would provide a visual appreciation and nurturing experience. The idea spawned an artist, and after years of sculpting classes, lessons, and changing prototypes, a Geography Doll is born.
The first Geography Doll culture story, due to be released in December, 2007 is the Gift of Yucatán, Pancho's Quest. It was chosen as a gift to the author’s family who share that heritage.
This year, the gift packages will be offered in three price ranges to accommodate consumers. Each doll will be a one-of-a-kind design depicting the culture and are meant to be collected. While each listing will be priced for it’s uniqueness, they will fall into one of the following categories:
   1. A play doll, dressed in a traditional Maya dress, huipil and book.
   2. A “newborned” baby, painted on vinyl made from an artist’s sculpt will be offered with an authentic hammock and book.
   3. A one-of-a-kind artist sculptured baby doll in polymer clay is being offered for the serious doll collector.  These dolls are extremely limited and priced as a gift to collectors who share a love of art and culture.
